I just talked with a patient last week suffering from this condition. From a natural medicine approach it is usually fairly easy to correct. Helpful hints:
1 – avoid or minimize foods that can relax the lower esophageal sphincter: alcohol, mint/peppermint, chocolate, fatty foods, citrus, etc
2 – Consider digestive enzymes that contain betaine HCL – research has shown that most cases of reflux are due to insufficient amounts of hydrochloric acid vs too much stomach acid. If adding an enzyme containing HCL aggravates your reflux it is important that you let your doctor know. You may have a decreased mucosal lining and/or excess stomach acid (which is more rare than low stomach acid)
3 – 1-2 tsp of Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar before each meal can also help
